Victory Lane Article Correction

I thought I'd better toss a correction regarding the Trans Am race article before John Bries or others jumped on it first. In the September issue of Victory Lane on page 24 the first sentence left out the "and Historic" group - listing John as the co-leader of the Ladies group. I'll try to watch for errors a little closer next time.

Greetings Historic Group!
We are rapidly approaching the 2008 season. Historically speaking, La Junta has gathered our best showings of the Historic Group. Let us see if we can set a new benchmark from this year's event, and put a good sized group on track. April 18, 19 & 20, 2008 is this year's Drivers' School and Track Event.

Congratulations to Trisha Dudding and her 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S, 933-Green, for winning the 2007 Danny Colins Cup. She did so with a combination of driving, event support & production, and optimizing family participation.

I cannot provide complete standings for 2007, due to a computer hard drive failure which took with it everything it knew, including the program in which the data was collected. Fortunately, 2008 is another opportunity!

At the February RMVR board meeting, Steve Geese reminded me, by suggesting we make Historic Group patches, that we have our group stickers.
The Historic Group Members may now proudly display their affiliation!

I was asked by Bill Rosenbach if I would ever bring out my Westfield Lotus 11 replica to run with the historic group, and I replied that it wasn't eligible as a replica. He asked a series of relevant questions that I couldn't answer so I thought I'd post them to the board.

1. If a production car was never raced in period, but was built to race from a street car in 1990 or 2002 isn't that a replica? If not, how is it different?

In the current (March) issue of Classic Motorsports, Hoosier announced a line of new tires potentially suitable for historic racing, the "Speedster". The good news is that out of the three 15" rim sizes listed (at hossiertire.com), two are suitable for Porsche and some other fine cars. The bad news is that they are about $150@! I still recommend real street tires.
